The Digital Humanities Center has a limited, but growing, amount of technology for use in your digital research, teaching, and learning. Equipment cannot be checked out, removed from the Center, or used after hours. In order to accommodate usage, we ask that you request to use the equipment in advance. Questions and requests for new hardware or software can be sent to us at librarydh@sdsu.edu.

Large screens

We have 20 60" screens with built-in speakers and HDMI hookup on moveable stands. If a screen is on the floor and not in use, feel free to hook directly up to it. Otherwise, see a DH Center staff member for help. 

Laptops

We have a laptop cart with 30 13" MacBook Pros, each with two Thunderbold 3 ports. These computers are primarily reserved for DH instruction and DH workshops. Power adaptors are not available for use.

As much as possible, we try to use free, open-source software, or software that SDSU supports. The laptops have the following software installed:

• macOS Monterey, including standard Mac software (such as: GarageBand and iMovie, Pages, Keynote, standard mac Widgets)
• Internet Browsers: Safari, Firefox, Chrome
• Microsoft Office 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Adobe Creative Cloud: Acrobat, Audition, InDesign, Photoshop (not available on all laptops)
• Audacity audio editing software
• Atom Text Editor

• Twine (v. 2.2.1) interactive storytelling creation tool

If you need additional software, please contact the DH Center staff (librarydh@sdsu.edu) at least two weeks in advance. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to fulfill your request.

Adaptors

We have a limited number of adaptors that you can use upon request:

• USB to USB-C
• mini DisplayPort to HDMI
• USB-C to HDMI
• Lightning to HDMI (for mobile device hookup)
• micro HDMI to HDMI
• mini HDMI to HDMI

We recommend that you bring your own adaptors to ensure compatibility.

Oculus Go

We have one Oculus Go virtual reality headset, which can be used with your smartphone. You will need to download the Oculus Go phone app. The Oculus Go is not currently available due to the pandemic. 

Learning Glass

We have a Learning Glass One Button Recording Studio that can be reserved in advance. Please review this brief tutorial prior to your arrival.

Multimedia Practice Presentation Studio

The Multimedia Practice Presentation Studio (LA 62) features:

• Mediascape for laptop hookup and display
• Projector for VHS, DVD, and laptop hookup (includes audio)
• Crestron presentation recording system
• Space for virtual reality demos

If you want to use the Crestron presentation recording system, you will need to bring a USB flash drive formatted for FAT32 that is 4GB or larger. Requests to use the Multimedia Practice Presentation Studio can be submitted online.

DIY Podcasting Studio

Opened late Spring 2019, our two DIY Podcasting studios include the following equipment:

• USB microphones (2)
• Pop filters (2)
• Wrap around headphones (3)
• Table-top "whisper room" sound proofing (2)

SDSU community members interesting in using our Podcasting Studio should bring their own laptop, or check out a laptop at the Circulation Desk. Podcasting equipment cannot be checked out or removed from the DH Center.
